Spelman College Receives $100M Donation, Largest Ever For HBCU

“The ability to secure the future for young women that I see every day on campus was just awe-inspiring.

Spelman College received a $100 million donation on Thursday (Jan. 18) — the largest donation to an HBCU ever. Atlanta News First reported that Ronda E. Stryker, a Spelman trustee since 1997, and her husband William D. Johnston, a Greenleaf Trust chairman, were responsible for the generous donation.

Spelman released an official statement on their college’s social media, thanking the married couple for the funds. Along with a message of gratitude, the academic institute also shared pictures of faculty, students, and alumnae reacting to the news.
