Charlottesville, VA – New Dominion Bookshop is pleased to announce an upcoming in-person reading with award-winning poet and educator Tony Keith Jr., author of the highly anticipated poetry collection, “Knucklehead.” The event, co-sponsored by Flux Poetry and Spoken Word, will take place on Saturday, April 5th, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.
Keith’s latest work, “Knucklehead,” challenges societal perceptions of young people, particularly Black boys, who are often labeled as “knuckleheads.” Through powerful and evocative poetry, Keith delves into themes of self-discovery, identity, and the transformative power of language. The collection explores the complexities of navigating racist and homophobic constructs, offering poems that serve as both a salve for hurt and a beacon of hope.
“Knucklehead” is described as a “breathtaking work,” featuring black-and-white illustrations and poetry that promises to heal, provoke, and inspire. The collection takes readers on a journey through history, family, friendship, and love, offering a unique perspective on the experiences of Black gay boys and men.
