CHARLOTTESVILLE, July 20, 2021— The immersive art and creative placemaking nonprofit, Ix Art Park, announced today the inaugural Soul of Cville Festival will take place later this Summer on August 28, 2021. Originating from the collaboration of two events hosted by 101.3 JAMZ and Chic and Classy Image Consulting, the Soul of Cville Festival is a free grassroots celebration of Black Excellence and Culture in Charlottesville.
“Over the past few years due to the racial climate, social unrest, and socioeconomic disparities that largely impact minorities, Charlottesville has lost a piece of our heart and ultimately, our soul. What we are doing here is bringing the soul back to the city! How do you do that? Remove barriers. You welcome those who fight so hard just to live on a day to day basis; those whose very souls are holding steadfastly by the skin of their teeth…whose souls are tattered and worn but intact” says Khalilah Jones, Fashion Show Coordinator with Chic & Classy Image Consulting and Director of Philanthropy, Black Women of Central Virginia.
Festivities include a Fashion Show, Soul Market, and Community Row. Opener Lee Bangah will keep the pressure strong with new beats and rhythms. Sam “The Beast From The East” will make crowds move to timeless hits. Headliner E&J Band will groove into the late night. The Soul of Cville will kick off Saturday, August 28 at 5 pm and run until 2 am.
“When approaching the original concept, it was paramount to everyone at the table that this festival remains accessible and inclusive and that meant no entrance fee. We believe that the art park is an asset to our community and we strive to identify new ways at eroding barriers to build more unity in our community” expressed Alex Bryant, Associate Director of Ix Art Park Foundation.
Soul of Cville will also feature local Cville DJ Almighty playing old-school hits into the mix. A Late Night Silent Disco featuring DJ Double U will raise funds to support the 4 organizing nonprofits. Soul of Cville will include art-making from a contingent of local Charlottesville artists who will be announced later this Summer.
“It’s time for the urban community to have its own festival celebrating love, life, music, fashion, heritage & community” shared Jaquan Middleton, Program Director of 101.3 JAMZ.
“Bring the kiddos! That’s where the true Soul of Cville resides. This festival is about fierce and unapologetic cultural acceptance…for, by, and about the community!” Jones expands.
Tickets for the Silent Disco will be available later this month and can be purchased at www.ixartpark.org
